Tractor Ted Meets the Animals
Children love a farm, and even those who aren’t close enough to visit, can get the feeling of a real one with Tractor Ted. Yes, Ted may be animated, but the real life footage is what makes this spot on viewing for youngsters. Through his happy and clear narration, they can learn all about farm life, and in this DVD, we meet the animals and see how they are looked after. As a parent, this heart warming DVD is reassuring viewing, where enjoyment and learning combine to perfection.
Around the World with Willy Fog RRP £5.99 Stockist: 'Play.com'
Phileas Fog’s famous journey courtesy of the pen of Jules Verne, is brought to life via the form of animation. It is all done with a touch of class that makes this something that they will really get their teeth into. The animation is colourful and the storyline addictive – what more can you ask for?
Livin’ it up with the Bratz RRP £17.99 Stockist: Amazon
This is a graphic marvel, with colours and clarity to die for. The content is pretty cool too, and girls of a certain age can live their dream life by choosing options via the remote. If the Bratz have attitude, the DVD has buckets of it too. This is an interactive triumph, and well worth a purchase.
Elmo’s World – Wake up with Elmo! RRP £9.99 Stockist: Amazon
You have to give it to them – Sesame Street and Elmo do TV that pre schoolers love. Oozing happiness, positivity and great values, you know your children are in good hands watching this. What we especially love is the educational emphasis – they can’t help but learn whilst watching.
Little People - Discovering Music and Animals RRP £5.99 Stockist: Amazon
It’s great to find something new in the world of kid’s DVD! This is pleasant, cheery and totally refreshing! The Little People are very toy like, and that makes them somehow easy to relate to. There are American voices and this adds to the all over friendly ambience. With song and conversation, children can learn more about music and animals, whilst having a truly fun time. It’s so addictive, parents will want to join in too!
The Shoe People RRP £5.99 Stockist: 'Play.com'
Oh happy memories! As soon as this DVD starts to play, they all come flooding back. When the shoe shop shuts for the night, the shoes come to life, and have adventures that will enthral any young child. Shaggy and Scooby Doo Get a Clue Warner Home Video RRP £13.99 Stockist: Amazon
The original format and characters
may now have gone, but luckily this up to date version is fabulously
addictive. With a rock backing track, Shaggy and Scooby have lost a
bit of innocence but gained street cred, meaning they have mass appeal
to their target audience. We loved this on a massive scale – the
mystery solving remains, but don’t expect the same as before.
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (special edition) Warner Home Video RRP £25.99 Stockist: Amazon
There has been a lot of talk about this being the darkest instalment so far and this is true. However, this is to the films benefit and brings a necessary injection of something different in order to keep the film audience captivated. The quality of special effects is as stunning as you would expect and what puts these films into the extraordinary category. There won’t be many watching who don’t know the story, so to summise would be unnecessary – in fact, a review is somewhat pointless, as this DVD needs nobody to sell its virtues.
Bridge To Terabithia Icon Home Entertainment RRP £19.99 Stockist: Amazon

Family Favourites – Triple Box Set Robin Hood – Quest for The King/The Three Musketeers – Saving The Crown/The Prince And The Pauper – Double Trouble RRP £9.99
Yes, the price is correct – three kids DVDs for under a tenner! The animation on all discs is fresh and along with the background music, makes a mesmorising combination that will guarantee that they won’t move throughout. The quality and enjoyment factor of these means that they are also ideal for viewing altogether as a family. Full of warmth and laughter, it’s great to experience the feel good factor with your kids. We were pleasantly surprised by this collection and are sure you will be too!
Flicka RRP £12.99 Stockist: Amazon
This is very much a feel good movie, the type you can all watch together as a family and feel happy that you did. Katy returns to her family’s ranch in Wyoming from boarding school where she hasn’t exactly shone. One night she comes across the very wild ‘Flicka’. She forms a strong bond with the horse but her father wants rid of him. The DVD contains all the emotions that make a film watchable – love, tension, drama, trust etc, and if you know a pre/early teen horse lover then they will thank you for it all the more.
Dora:Big Sister Dora 'Paramount Home Entertainment' RRP £12.99 Stockist: Amazon
How very exciting! Dora is about to be a big sister! When Dora gets a call to say the baby is about to be born, she then has to navigate home, with the help of the children at home of course. Dora is in for a big surprise as she is now the big sister of twins! This story line makes it ideal for those expecting a new edition to the family – Dora is compulsive pre school viewing and shows no signs of diminishing in popularity. There are another 3 outings on the DVD and let’s be fair, your kids will just love ‘em!
Avatar Book 1 Volume 3 'Paramount Home Entertainment' RRP £12.99 Stockist: Amazon
This is just brilliant stuff! Children will love it and so will adults. The quality of the cartoon picture is crystal clear and the colours breathtaking. Our hero is Aang, who must master bending (controlling) the four major elements of the world (Earth, Water, Fire and Air) in order to save the world. The story is gripping and fresh and just very clever. Once you’ve seen one episode, you will be drooling for more and luckily this DVD has four episodes. Truly unmissable stuff.
'Robotech:The Shadow Chronicles' RRP £19.99 Stockist: 'Play.com'
Wow!! We have never ever seen such clear, crisp and precise animation as in this DVD. We just wish real life looked this good! Our tester is nuts for this stuff but adults will get just as much out of the experience. The theme is futuristic with intergalactic war being the reality. The DVD is great in the way it doesn’t condescend children’s understanding and our tester sat mouth open throughout the whole nearly hour and a half. Supreme stuff!
Spongebob Squarepants:Whale of a Birthday 'Paramount Home Entertainment' RRP £9.99 Stockist: Amazon
Spongebob spans generation as he’s just as funny for adults as he is to kids. And he never loses it! This latest DVD is seven awesome episodes long – each is as funny as the last. Our favourite is “Wigstruck” where Spongebob finds an old powdery wig and decides to wear it all the time. As you can imagine, just the sight of Spongebob in a wig is comedy genius in itself!
The Backyardigans:Surf's Up! 'Paramount Home Entertainment' RRP £12.99 Stockist: Amazon
This latest DVD contains 4 episodes of the very bright and colourful programme which oozes happiness. The music is up to date and catchy and kids simply love it. We really liked ‘Riding the Range’, where we find Tyrone going to a hoedown. Naturally, that gives plenty of opportunity for singing and dancing and lots of fun. A Backyardigans DVD is always a guaranteed winner and they will be transfixed as always.

It seems along time since children’s television had a programme that was clearly educational but just as appealing as all the rest at the same time. ‘Numberjacks’ has taken the nation by storm. This is their second outing on DVD and is one DVD you can happily let them watch knowing they are benefitting educationally as well as having great fun!

The latest offering from Thomas and his friends is as captivating as ever. Whether your child is Thomas mad or not, boy or girl, they will love watching all the adventures and fun to be had at Sodor. But our absolute highlight has to be the addition of the new theme tune in karaoke style, meaning you can all sing along. Trust me, in our family we have waited for this for ages! A must have DVD for your pre-schoolers DVD collection.
King Arthur’s Disasters – Episodes 7-13 DVD 'ITV DVD' RRP £7.99 Stockist: Amazon
With a strong cast of total comic genius, this review hardly need go any further.
