There is a lot more to this spooky house than first appears! Designed for ages 5-10, our 5 year old reviewer found this great fun, especially as the sound effects added to the whole ghost like vibe. This helped them engage with the challenges and hold their attention. There are lots of different challenges that help with development skills, and whilst our reviewer was on the younger age span, they still found enough to do, and really enjoyed getting things right. George of the Jungle Wii Ignition Entertainment RRP £29.99 Stockist: Amazon
The Wii is a fantastic platform for young gamers, who traditionally used a joypad to recreate the exact action of the intended move anyway, so swinging from vine to vine is kids heaven! The cheeky, fun graphics will have them believe they are watching a DVD, but once that mistake has been explained, it’s a green light to fun, fun, fun! The game play may not satisfy seasoned gamers, but then, it’s not for them, so the platform style format gives plenty to occupy and entertain. A pretty, no brainer success for the Wii.
Neves Nintendo DS Ignition Entertainment RRP £19.99 Stockist: Amazon
Puzzles are, by nature, addictive, and this is no exception. The DS is the perfect platform for such offerings, making it ideal for on the move boredom as well as wittering hours away at home. Neves does have that Tetris feel to it, and look how well that did (there was even a chart hit!) - you will be flipping and rotating different coloured shapes like a good ‘un in no time, especially as this is where the DS stylus comes into its own. This is a challenging game, if perhaps slightly repetitive at times, but such is the cross that all puzzle games have to bare.
Teenage Zombies: Invasion of the Alien Brain Thingys! Nintendo DS Ignition Entertainment RRP £24.99 Stockist: Amazon
Fantastic stuff! If you are equipped with even a slight sense of humour, this will satisfy on every level. The retro comic book style looks great on the console and the sci-fi theme will appeal to far more than only the nerds. Game play revolves around 3 teenage zombies who are the only ones who can defeat ‘The Big Brain’. This multi level game has the essential micro games to ensure attention is held, but to be fair, the graphics and music alone kept us well happy. We’re loving it, loving it – yeh!
Crayola Treasure Adventures Nintendo DS Ignition Entertainment RRP £24.99 Stockist: Amazon
The DS lends itself perfectly to this type of game, which could not be more suited to the younger age group if it tried. As it’s Crayola, it has instant appeal to kids who will point it out amongst other games on a shelf, and you do get what you’d expect a Crayola game to have. Naturally, there’s plenty of colouring opportunities, making it a long journey life saver without the mess, but there are puzzles and challenges to add variety and capture attention. Our 5 year old reviewer found this a great use of their time, and the DS stylus meant colouring success was both manageable and achievable. An ideal game for the intended market.

Pirates of the Burning Sea PC Sony Online Entertainment RRP £29.99 Stockist: Amazon
The cover may look ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’, but there is more depth to this game than any role Johnny Depp has ever played. This reminds us of those great board games of our youth – intense gameplay and realism but now brought slap bang up to date with dazzling graphics (in both serenity and action!). The historic element leads to a lot of interesting scenarios and makes a change from the usual online fair. This may lead to a different mix of subscribers and a community where your interest can thrive. Another thumbs up from us.
Everquest II PC Sony Online Entertainment RRP £19.99 Stockist: Amazon
Prepare to be stunned, in every way that is possible. This new Everquest offering contains not only all the previous outings, but also the new expansion ‘Rise of Kunark’. Firstly, the whole thing is a graphic triumph – this is surely as good as it gets and will leave you in awe at the developer’s talent. Gameplay is, well, stupendous – just how much varied game play can be crammed into a sub £20 package? It is, of course, addictive, and there are many fellow addicts out there to interact with on a competitive yet friendly level too. Infact, think of a superlative, double it, add infinity, treble, and that’s just about how chuffed we are with this.
Disney Princess: Enchanted Journey PS2 RRP £19.99 Stockist: Amazon
Computer games for little girls have come a long way recently, with companies realising there's a great market for other formats other than the PC. This has also given the opportunity for better games to come through with more interaction and game play. Here you can do the usual things, such as customise your Disney character with clothes, hair, make up etc, but where this really starts to ge interesting is with the games and puzzles. These are sufficiently challenging to get their minds cranking, but without the need for adult help every five seconds - phew! Also, the graphics will have them enchanted (probably hence the title), and for your mini gamer, this is a great game for the pennies.
Shrek Ogres & Dronkeys Nintendo DS Activision RRP £29.99 Stockist: Amazon
Once you know this is a virtual pet type of set up, you can pretty much tell what you are getting here. The bonus is that the characters are ultra cute in an ugly type of way that kids will adore and yes, this is one for the kids. You take care of the little darlings as in bathing, playing, training... - all standard stuff but the highlight is the mini games that you encounter on route (snail bowling was fab!). This is definitely kiddy fare, but these games are an essential part of today's market and all the better for it we feel!
Bee Movie Game PS2 Activision RRP £29.99 Stockist: Amazon
This game is geared towards the younger game playing audience but they will love everything about it! The graphics are bright and colourful, as you would imagine, but what takes it out of the ordinary younger game fare, is the thought that's been put into the scenarios. You, as the bee, get yourself into a multitude of humourous situations that will ensure severe laughter. Everything is seen from the bee's perspective and the bordering on sarcastic voice over makes this a riot. We didn't expect to like this half as much as we did, but recommend it very highly indeed! Call of Duty 4 : Modern warfare Xbox 360 Activision RRP £49.99 Stockist: Amazon
This is "infinity wards" fourth instalment of the call of duty line and with this new title they have raised the bar for the first person shooter genre. The graphic's are beaeutifully done and you feel as if your really part of either the S.A.S or the U.S marines. Each factor have a story that link together and leads towards the end. My Personal Favourite have to be the british S.A.S because they show the british sense of humor that most of us have. The online mode for the multiplayer side is well crafted to keep players wanting more and more with unlockable weapons and attachments as well as having a Military rank system, the more you play the online mode the further your rank will become i myself am a staff sergent. I've really enjoyed playing Call of Duty 4 : Modern warfare and i'm sure you will too.

The Brain Trainer phenomenon continues to boom and a PC version makes it easily accessible to the masses. 10 -15 minutes a day on your PC or laptop is all it takes to keep your mind sharp and with so many using computers every day, there is a greater chance of keeping up with the routine. The activities themselves are generally familiar formats, such as word searches, mental arithmetic and spelling and we found that easier to adjust to than some other formats. Such activities have been used for years to keep the brain and mind alert and that gave us great faith in their ability. High quality graphics and amazing sound effects will make them believe they are in the countryside and living the dream. The main aspects of looking after your very own pony are here in the hand, including cleaning hooves and grooming. Make your pony look amazing then take it for a ride, the rides being graphic heaven and a definite highlight. The game play is age appropriate and adds a much appreciated extra dimension. The great thing about ‘Focus’ titles is that they always exceed expectations. Whether you own a horse or not, there is plenty to get your teeth into as this is challenging stuff. The visual is superb and creates a very real atmosphere – the colours are fresh and you actually feel like you are in the outdoors.
