We've loads of books to choose from !
Lulu’s Shoes Camilla Reid RRP £6.99 Publisher:'Bloomsbury' Stockist: Amazon
Noisy Noisy Footballers RRP £7.99 Publisher: 'Ladybird Books' Stockist: Amazon
Wow!! This is the first Noisy Noisy book we have seen, and we were so enthralled with the front cover we struggled to get past it! Luckily, each page has a different sound on – add to that vivid illustration, appropriate and fun rhyme and a feeling of happiness, and we are, quite literally, in awe. Perfection!
Terry Webb Harshman RRP £5.99 Publisher:'Bloomsbury' Stockist: Amazon
This is a book full of rhythm that cleverly explores the use of the same word in different ways, using the sea as its backdrop. This makes it great for introducing young children to the concept, and backed by great illustration means the message will be reinforced. Learning aside, the rhyme in this book reigns supreme, having the feel of a playground game. Children will love it, and easily connect with the text. We love extras, and the last page has facts about the sea, thereby tieing in all the themes explored in the main pages.
Captain Wag and the Big Blue Whale Michael Terry RRP £6.99 Publisher:'Bloomsbury' Stockist: Amazon
Children’s books have an amazing ability to stay fresh and new, and this book is something we haven’t seen before. It cleverly portrays life on the waves and pirates in a factual but fun way which we loved. The animals aren’t fluffy and cute, and this is perfect boy fodder. As if we weren’t impressed enough, it also has a fold out picture and re usable stickers, so the fun continues long after the text has stopped.
RRP £4.99
Tractor Ted is a happy soul, and he loves to show you around his farm. In this book, we learn about what is done in the summer months. Vivid photos and clear, concise text make this a book that’s perfect for many ages, including early readers. We especially like that the cover clearly states what age group and Key Stage level this is suitable for, making choosing the perfect book a lot more straight forward.
The Bog Baby Jeanne Willis illustrated by Gwen Millward RRP £5.99 Publisher: 'Puffin Books' Stockist: Amazon
If you could frame a page from this book, you would, so beautiful is the illustration and presentation. The story is full of the wonder of a child’s imagination, as two sisters find a ‘Bog Baby’. To tell you a lot more about the story would spoil its magic, but trust me when I say it’s a little gem.
The Littlest Dinosaur Michael Foreman RRP £10.99 Publisher:'Bloomsbury' Stockist: Amazon
This book looks at the way we are all different, and that just because we are, we are just as important. Soft, almost wash effect illustration give the book a warm feel, and this is backed up by the simple, no fuss style of writing. This adds an honesty to the read and means you have confidence in the moral story it is conveying. It is a very well thought through book which you can’t help but adore.
Thud! Nick Butterworth RRP £5.99 Publisher: 'Harper Collins Children's Books' Stockist: Amazon
As you would imagine from Nick Butterworth, the writing in this book is of the highest quality, and as you would imagine from Nick Butterworth, the illustration is supreme. The book as a whole is simply perfect, an example of what a great children’s book can be. It entranced not only our child reviewer, but the parent too, so much so we had to have a read, and just had to agree. Full of the cutest animals, and with a warm story line, you can’t fail to fall under its spell.
The Growing Story Ruth Krauss illustrated by Helen Oxenbury RRP £5.99 Publisher: 'Harper Collins Children's Books' Stockist: Amazon
This book has been in existence since 1947, and as a parent, you may well find the story familiar – we did. Every child wants to be bigger, imagining that dramatic changes can happen overnight, ad this book addresses those emotions. The language is exquisite with illustration to match, but what makes this book even more special is the free height chart that’s included (there’s even space for photos!). Adorable.
Daddy's Lullaby Tony Bradham illustrated by Jason Cockcroft RRP £5.99 Publisher:'Bloomsbury' Stockist: Amazon
Not a Box Antoinette Portis RRP £5.99 Publisher: 'Harper Collins Children's Books' Stockist: Amazon
Sometimes the simplest of ideas make genius books, and this book is definitely that. It is so well thought through, from the cardboard style cover which says ‘Net Wt. 360g’, to the back cover saying ‘This Side Up’. The book is about something we can all relate to – why are kids more fascinated with the box than the pricey toy inside? The pages alternate between one sentence questions then one sentence answers, perfectly picking up on a child’s point of view. The illustration is simple, the colour theme simple but it all adds to a glorious book.

Getting children to eat food can be a mammoth task full of stress. This book is written from the child’s perspective, looking at the ‘trauma’ one pea can cause.
